Previously Hate and Defamation of Islam, Dutch Politicians Finally Become Converts

TIMES OF ISLAM, TANJUNG ENIM - A former member of the Dutch anti-Islamic right-wing party PVV, Joram Van Klaveren decided to embrace Islam on Monday (04/02).

Joram Van Klaveren (39 years old) said he switched from his harsh criticism of Islamic teachings to deciding to convert to Islam when he was in the process of writing a book about Islam.

"During the writing I found more and more things that made my view of Islam shaky," he concluded to Dutch radio.

Van Klaveren was a member of parliament from the Freedom Party (PVV) from 2010 to 2014, but he withdrew from the PVV after racist Geerts Wilders called on his supporters during a 2014 rally if they (PVV) wanted more or less Moroccans in the Netherlands, where the crowd chanted "Less! Less! Fewer! ", Reported by Politico EU.

After leaving the PVV, Joram Van Klaveren founded his own party, "For Netherlands", but failed to win a seat in the 2017 national elections until he decided to leave the political arena.

Previously, Joram Van Klaveren was a strong critic of Islam during his time as a PV politician.

He even once said "Islam is a lie" and "Al-Quran is poison," as reported by the NRC newspaper.

When Van Klaveren was interviewed in the media whether he felt guilty about the statement, Van Klaveren said he felt "wrong,".

He added that such a statement was "PVV policy: everything that is wrong must be linked to Islam in one way or another."

Meanwhile, Arnoud van Doorn, a former high-ranking official of the PVV party, was another figure who had previously embraced Islam.

Van Doorn congratulated Van Klaveren for his decision through his Twitter account, writing, "[I] never thought that PVV would be a breeding ground for converts."
