Residents Don't Have Rice, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo: Eat Tiwul

TIMES OF ISLAM, TANJUNG ENIM - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo responded lightly to residents of Banyumas Regency who consumed tiwul because they did not have rice stocks due to the long dry season. The rain that has not fallen since two months ago, caused residents of the Wanarata Hamlet, Kalitapen Village, Purwojati District, Banyumas, to have difficulties with food.

"It's okay to eat tiwul, that's okay, I recommend. If there is no rice, eat tiwul, eat the tubers that we have, and that is part of food diversification, "Ganjar said while attending the 36th Anniversary of the Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) on Monday (08/08/2018).

According to him, people can consume all the potential in their respective regions if they cannot grow rice due to long drought. Moreover, there are now many innovations and traditional food creations that have a taste that is not inferior to today's culinary.

"That is not allowed if you don't eat. If it doesn't eat, report me. Tiwul is delicious. Now tiwul tastes good. Which in (area) there please use (consumption) not only eat rice. Except sorry, if you eat rice. "Please report to me, we prepare droping, assistance (food)," he said.

Previously, information circulating among residents of Wanarata Hamlet, consuming tiwul or oyek to deal with the current conditions of food difficulties. The number of residents living in the hamlet is 450 families or 2,000 people. Of that number, more than half are poor people who rely on rainfed agriculture as a livelihood.
